Web accessibility review

This website is run by the Swedich National Maritime and Transport Museums (SMTM). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website, and here we describe how www.marinmuseum.se complies with the accessibility regulations, any known accessibility issues, and how you can report problems so that we can fix them.

We know some parts of this website aren’t fully accessible. See the section on non-accessible content below for more information.

Information on deficiencies in the website’s accessibility

This website is partly in compliance with the Act on Access to Digital Public Services due to the deficiencies described below.

The PDF documents published on the website do not fulfil the accessibility requirements.

Corrective actions: A planned action is to replace existing PDF documents with PDF documents that are created in the correct manner to meet the requirements. This work will be carried out during 2022.

Sound and video recordings

Sound and video recordings on the website (published before 23 September 2020) and in the Naval Museums social media channels lack a written version, meaning transcription and text manuscripts.

Corrective action: Sound and video recordings published before 23 September will not be provided with alternatives due to a lack of resources. The sound and video recordings published on the website after 23 September will have manuscripts and/or transcription as alternatives.

Audio description

The video recordings that are published on the website and in Vrak Museum of Wreck’s social media channels do not have audio description.

Corrective action: SMTM invokes disproportionate burden pursuant to Section 12. Read more in the section on Unreasonably burdensome adaptation.

Captioning of live broadcasts

In Vrak Museum of Wreck’s social media channels (Facebook, YouTube and Instagram), there are video recordings that are not captioned. These are originally live broadcasts, but have been there more than 14 days and should therefore be captioned to meet the accessibility requirements.

Corrective action: SMTM invokes disproportionate burden pursuant to Section 12. Read more in the section on Unreasonably burdensome adaptation.

A study to improve the performance will take place during 2022 with the goal to reach a fully compliant level by the end of the year.

Corrective action on accessibility problems

Our ambition is to have resolved all known accessibility problems during 2022.

Disproportionate burden

The Swedish National Maritime and Transport Museums invoke exemption for  Disproportionate burden pursuant to Section 12 of the Act on Access to Digital Public Services for the content below.

  • Audio description of video recordings. Due to limited financial and human resources, SMTM does not have the possibility to provide audio descriptions of the films published on the website and in social media channels.
  • Captioning of live broadcasts that are published in social media channels. Due to limited financial and human resources, SMTM does not have the possibility to caption video recordings that are broadcast live in social media channels and after live broadcast remain in the social media feeds for more than 14 days.

How we tested the website

Together with the procured web supplier Knowit Experience Linköping, SMTM conducted a self-evaluation of the website based on the checklists provided by DIGG on the website www.webbriktlinjer.se.

Together with Knowit Experience Linköping, SMTM went through the website based on DIGG’s checklists in October 2019. Thereafter, a plan was prepared for the corrective actions that must be implemented for the website to fulfil the requirements in the Act on Access to Digital Public Services.

The development took place on a continuous basis and ordinary procedures for testing and deployment were applied. Due to budget cuts in spring 2020, SMTM has not had the possibility to implement all of the corrective actions planned. Some parts will therefore not become accessible until 2022.

In parallel with the technical development work, SMTM worked internally to examine the content on the website and prepare an action plan for the editorial sections and thereafter continuously worked to implement the corrective actions.

The website was published in autumn 2015.
