Vrak conducts research into the history of the Baltic Sea region. Maritime archeology is a science that examines objects and other remains, in or near water, to find out more about people and societies in the past. In the Baltic Sea, the conditions are special, and Vrak´s diving maritime archaeologists are constantly discovering new wrecks and remains.
A maritime archaeologist examines objects and other traces that humans have left behind, which are found in or near water. This can be anything from settlements, defence facilities and piers to submarines and aircraft – and shipwrecks.
Nowhere else in the world are there as many well-preserved wooden wrecks as on the bottom of the Baltic Sea. Information exists indicating that thousands of shipwrecks have ended up here, and all of the wrecks have not yet been discovered.
