Resande Man

Dive deep and discover the story of the mythical shipwreck Resande Man (”Travelling Man”). In November, in year 1660 the ship Resande Man sank in the Stockholm archipelago during a storm. The vessel was headed for Poland on an important diplomatic mission. About half the crew managed to survive the accident.

In the stairway to the upper floor of the museum of wrecks, sculptures of copper ships are presented, created by artist Borney Bergstrand.

Copper Ships

Artist and sculptor Borney Bergstrand's copper ships adorn the stairs at Vrak. These sculptures are shaped by his experiences from various jobs at shipyards and as a pipelayer. He makes sculptures out of copper scrap and uses metal shears, hammers, welding equipment and other tools for his designs – a mix of rough craftsmanship and fine forging.

The Divided Sea

Findings from the bottom of the sea take you through the Baltic nations' common history. The findings from warships, trade ships and a sunken submarine tell their part of the Baltics’ story. The Divided Sea starts in the 17th century and ends with the disaster of MS Estonia, a collective trauma.

The Assignment

What does a maritime archaeologist do? Put on a VR headset and try for yourself! In this part of our exhibitions you can dive without getting wet, while you get to examine and document a wreck in virtual reality. But a maritime archaeologist does not just work below the surface. In this exhibition you learn how to date and find out more about findings through research in archives.
